Now that we are already into the second half of 2016, I thought this would be a good time to look back on what I have been doing during the first half of the year with teaching my art classes and workshops in watercolour painting and drawing.
Since the beginning of March I have been very lucky to be able to hire The Bakehouse Studio at 54 Renwick Street Marrickville NSW for my regular Wednesday morning casual drop-in classes and themed workshops. It’s a fantastic venue with lots of space and a wonderfully creative, relaxing and inspiring ambience that is really enjoyed by both me and all my students.
All the workshops I teach are suitable for beginners or students who have perhaps worked in oils or acrylics and are interested in trying this wonderfully versatile medium. They aim to show that watercolours can be made simple by using a limited palette of colours and a loose, impressionistic style of painting with only minimal drawing required.
Over the last few months I have also been teaching ongoing private tuition classes with some students who are keen to improve their painting and drawing skills which I have found to be very rewarding.
I taught a different watercolour workshop on each of the 4 Wednesdays in March with the themes of: Introducing Watercolours; Travel Sketching & Diaries; Easy Flowers; and Interiors & Still Life.
The theme for the watercolour workshop in April was Fruit & Vegetables and I had a great group of very enthusiastic students who were all very pleased with what they were able to achieve in just a few hours.
In May I started a series of casual drop-in classes on the first 3 Wednesdays of the month and a watercolour workshop with the theme of Watercolours & Travel on the final Wednesday. These drop-in classes have allowed students to drop in during the morning on a casual basis with a project they are working on that they need advice or guidance with or alternatively I am able to set them an exercise and supply reference material and inspiration.
The casual drop-in classes continued on the first 4 Wednesdays of June and on the final Wednesday of the month I taught a watercolour workshop with the theme of The Right Colour which was designed to help students with mixing colours to achieve what they are after for a particular subject.
During this month of July, the drop-in classes have continued for the first 3 Wednesdays and this coming Wednesday, July 27, I will be teaching a watercolour workshop with the theme of Birds of a Feather – featuring chickens, ducks and all our many other feathered friends with their wonderfully diverse array of colours, beautiful plumage and movement in flight which make them an ideal subject for watercolour painting.
