2016 WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOPS

Watercolour Workshops at The Bakehouse Studio

On Wednesday mornings during March 2016 I will be teaching 3-hour watercolour painting workshops from 10am – 1pm at THE BAKEHOUSE STUDIO in Marrickville. The first workshop, Introducing Watercolours, takes place this Wednesday, 9 March, followed by Travel Sketching & Diaries on Wednesday 16 March.

All these workshops are designed to show how easy watercolours can be to use and are suitable for absolute beginners or students who may have worked in oils or acrylics and are wanting to try this wonderful medium.

I am also looking into holding occasional weekend workshops and am available for individual tuition (by appointment) with a venue and dates to be announced.

Botanical Art Watercolour Workshop at Scratch Art Space

After the successful Simply Watercolour watercolour workshop I held on the premises of Scratch Art Space in early November 2015, I am scheduled to teach a 2-day weekend Botanical Art watercolour painting workshop in the second half of 2016 with the final dates yet to be confirmed.

This workshop will take students through how to observe their plant subject; doing a preliminary drawing of the plant through to transferring the image to watercolour paper and applying colour to produce the final painting.

TRAVEL SKETCHING TRIP & EXHIBITION

I recently went for a driving trip up to Brisbane to see some gallery exhibitions and took my travel sketching kit with me so I could do some work along the way. Here I am working on a small en plein air watercolour painting in the Old Queensland Botanic Gardens in Brisbane and also the small kit of of travel sketching materials I took with me.

UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS IN 2016

Travelogue, Travel Sketching Exhibition

I am currently planning an exhibition with friend and fellow artist, Margaret Carey and we will be submitting a proposal to some galleries for this in the next week or so. At the moment the exhibition has the working title of Travelogue and will feature pencil; pen & ink; watercolours; mixed media & collage of glimpses, scenes and impressions from our travels at home and abroad. My husband, Jamie McIlWraith, will also be joining us for the exhibition with his digital ‘dioramas’ created in Photoshop which tie in well with the theme of this exhibition.

ASMA Exhibitions

As a member of the Australian Society of Miniature Art, there are two exhibitions later in the year that I will be participating in. The first is an exhibition titled Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow which will be held at Juniper Hall in Paddington NSW from 21 May – 5 June 2016. I am planning on submitting 2 – 3 watercolour works based on the exhibition theme.

The other is the Annual ASMA Awards Exhibition which will run from 31 July – 20 August 2016 at the Ewart Gallery in Willoughby NSW.

There will be more information about all these exhibitions in the weeks and months to come.
